Beautiful Basement Floors...Which Won't Rot!

Total Basement Finishing has beautiful ideas to solve the problem of what to do about basement flooring.

Concrete basement floors are natural conductors of moisture. Although the floor appears dry, concrete is a porous material. Some dampness will penetrate that floor and enter the basement. If you lay carpet directly onto a concrete basement floor, at least some of that dampness will become trapped in the carpet. You’ve just created the perfect environment for mold: Moisture, warmth and organic material on which to grow.

Once mold gets a foothold, it can attack any wood, fabric, drywall or paper product in the area. Then mold spores have the potential to spread as air circulates from the basement upward throughout the home. Not exactly what you want your family exposed to, is it?

Since air passes through your house in the same way that it moves through a chimney by rising from the bottom of the house and exiting through the upper levels (this is know as the "stack effect"), mold spores from the basement pass through the entire house, compromising your health. The carpet, wooden floors, wooden subfloors, and drywall will rot, your basement will begin to smell mildewy, and all too soon you'll be forced to rip it out and start over. What a waste!

ThermalDry Carpeting Tiles Ohio We have developed a waterproof line of basement finishing products that will not rot, promote mold growth, or need to be ripped out of your basement. Our ThermalDry Tiled Basement Flooring and Mill Creek Basement Flooring give your basement a beautiful, sophisticated finish that will never go out of style!

If you like our product but want to install your own carpeting, our ThermalDry Basement Floor Matting has the perfect solution! Our unfinished floor tiles are perfect for wall-to-wall carpet installations, allowing you to install the carpet of your own choosing without the inevitability of it rotting, growing mold, or releasing the smell of mildew into your basement. With a Smart Design! Eventually rot and odor will develop. You’ll have to tear the carpet out and start again — unless you install a TBF finished basement floor system.
